The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Bark

  • can depict the personality behind which someone hides his real individuality – wood, whose state then symbolizes a person's soul (more on personality and individuality in Persona and Individuality archetypes).
  • with people it can be an allegory of the face and body, beneath which, like a tree's bark, they are fragrant and firm, or rotting and crumbling.
  • carving names of loved ones in tree bark: a superficial relationship.
  • peeling off tree bark: the dreamer is trying to get to know the individuality of the person to whom the dream tree (tree of life) is attributed; personality is meaningless and fleeting in the dreamer's eyes.
