The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Block

  • of water: this seemingly absurd notion is in dreams a common image of the idea of a being's center that arose from the pure emotional content of the mind – from water (see these ideas and developmental process in the Treasure archetype); a block of water stands until instinctual thinking reduces it to known images of the ordinary waking consciousness; since this idea is a vivid emotion, an emotional person can dwell within it without obvious difficulty.
  • of ice: the idea of a center of being in terms of the spiritual level, a view of a soulful feeling that, owing to the spiritual aspects, takes on completely new attributes; from a spiritual perspective the body loses meaning and therefore ice blocks generally are not accompanied by a symbol of the body as they are with blocks of water (emotions), in which the body still possesses some meaning.
  • of cement, stone: represents past acts and a person's fateful path to the consequences of his acts, feelings and thoughts; the impressed idea of a block shape then symbolizes clarified karma*26; firm blocks can then be linked to various monumental structures by which its role in life is indicated to the dreamer, or a stone block can be, as the result of deeply embedded memories of past lives, covered with mythical ornaments and ancient lettering (see past lives in the Past and Future Visions archetype).
  • everything that we inscribe into the block or see others inscribing into the block: the subconsciously sensed goal of our life and therefore it is important to pay great attention to this dream image.
  • with miraculous properties: a directed idea of the center of being in a spiritual perspective inevitably brings the ability of the active imagination*41 (see Active Imagination archetype).
  • for a quite similar symbol see Cube.
  • as in a block of paper (notepad): see Notebook.
  • of stone: see Rock or Stone.
