The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Motorcycle

  • the libido, instinctual desire, an activity aimed at achieving sexual gratification, and therefore dreams about motorcycles are also accompanied by other erotic and sexual themes.
  • driving a motorcycle: the libido is completely controlling the dreamer's consciousness, usually up to the next discharge of sexual forces.
  • riding on a motorcycle: the desire of others is pulling the dreamer into an instinctual life.
  • seeing others on a motorcycle: the dreamer has the unique chance to see in others, or better yet in himself, the results of instinctual thinking and uncontrolled attempts to discharge sexual energy.
  • accelerating, clutching the motorcycle's handlebars: clearly relates to an early form of sexuality and masturbation.
  • a bike passes a motorcycle: the dreamer's libido has not found an appropriate object of discharge and therefore the motorcycle is degraded beneath a bike which is linked to early sexuality and masturbation and that releases mental stress within since the conventional discharge of sexual energy has not occurred in real or dream sexual intercourse or in other sexual practices.
  • a motorcycle driven dangerously (the dreamer sees this or is doing the driving): symbolizes the threat that instinctual desire will fully control the dreamer's consciousness.
  • a motorcycle accident (witnessing or being involved in): instinctual desire fully controls the dreamer's consciousness; foretells of a crash in life.
  • the engine is sputtering, the motorcycle's decreased performance: the dreamer's libido is losing importance and conscious will is learning to control subconscious functions in life.
  • riding on one with one's partner and child: sexual instinct is directing the dreamer toward family life.
  • partners on a motorcycle: may indicate harmony between the dreamer and partner in their sex life, but in time the desire for gratification is shifted to other objects as well.
  • motorcycle races, an exceptionally fast motorcycle: the dreamer's futile idea that the libido and sexual desire can be controlled at high speeds.
  • friends and relatives on a motorcycle: may refer to their current state and relationship to the instinctual life.
  • following the dreamer: increasing inner power drives the dreamer toward sensual sexual gratification.
  • going up a steep hill: the futile desire through sexual instinct to achieve goals that are not instinctual.
  • bikers: if there are a lot of them and they act the same (usually aggressively and demonstrating their strength), then this is an expression of the collective sexual instinct that pulls people into the unrelenting arms of egotism.
  • military: discipline is trying to tame the dreamer's instinctual thoughts.
  • breaking: the dreamer is subconsciously trying to destroy the usurping power of instinctual longing.
  • a motorcycle turns into a car: a very positive dream in which the dreamer has replaced instinctual motives with the attempt to achieve knowledge and fast progress through life.
