- drunk man – instinctual animus, drunk woman – instinctual anima; clearly belong to images of the instinctual level often accompanied by other symbols of the instinctual level (usually of sex).
- seeing drunk people: the dreamer's emotions are disturbed by negative images that prevent full emotional development; it would therefore be good to ponder the problem that the unconscious is showing us in the images of unfortunate lives and to achieve compassion for these people (with the unfortunate part of our souls).
- a drunk soldier: a futile attempt at ascending to the emotional level through inner discipline ends with failure and a fall back to the instinctual level of experience.
- in successful mental and spiritual development, compassion often accompanies images of drunkards who are destroying the potential of their abilities.
