The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Plow

  • represents the father's fertile power and its antithesis is Mother Earth, which opens in the furrow of conception.
  • other similar symbols: furrow, harrow (farming machine), ear, field, plowing.
  • farming machine: not only the phallic shape of the plowshare but the movement in plowing clearly indicates a sexual symbol and a symbol of fertility; the soil as Mother Earth can make fruit from a seed, just like a child is born after a woman is fertilized; see Plowing.
  • in keeping roads clear: symbolizes the dreamer's attempt to continue in the life path despite the occasional snowfall from the spiritual level of consciousness; i.e. not stopping and not considering the spiritual level of consciousness as a person's final destination, which is not reached until realization*68.
