- entrance or doors to the cellar: separates the waking consciousness from the unconscious; a person can pass through this door to the process of recognizing his negative aspects (like Goethe's Faust who recognized Mephistopheles); a frequent image of the Hero and Shadow archetypes.
- key to a cellar or cellar lock: a chance to descend into one's subconscious and to discover here unsuspected aspects of one's psyche.
- a reservoir, pool in the cellar: the dreamer is discovering emotional content of which the mind was previously unaware.
- blocked cellar spaces: symbolizes biological waste in the birth canal (see Basic Perinatal Matrix archetype).
- path leading to a cellar: path to the subconscious mind toward hitherto hidden facts; if, for instance, an opening door, narrow spaces or water join this image, this is the dreamer's entrance to prenatal and birth experiences (see Basic Perinatal Matrix archetype).
- flooded: symbolizes birth canals or the womb; the water is synonymous with amniotic fluid (see Basic Perinatal Matrix archetype).
