The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Terra firma, dry land

  • evokes feelings of stability, permanence and unchanging principles in the dreamer, and therefore dry land becomes a starting point for paths to emotional or spiritual realms.
  • surrounded by water and everything on it: usually symbolizes the dreamer's instinctual content that is isolated predominantly by the emotional content of the mind; it expresses along with the setting and inhabitants of the island a central motif that the dreamer will soon have to face.
  • although changes in the nature of the land are usually slow and almost imperceptible in waking consciousness, in the unconscious and in dreams there also occur dramatic changes in land in certain phases of spiritual development, which confirms the rapid process of self-knowledge undertaken in waking consciousness; these images (often apocalyptic) are usually of the Apocalypse archetype.
