The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Swallowing

  • being swallowed or eaten: one of the frequent experiences of the death of the ego (alas, such an experience is the consequence of only a temporary liberation from the ego and does not have much in common with the permanent attainment of a spiritual state (see Hero – psychological archetype).
  • being swallowed by a mother: a dark aspect of the maternal goddess – Mother that comes from unnatural love and devotion.
  • being swallowed by a whale: the biblical story of Jonah shows the dreamer the path to his own soul and the painful discovery of his own inner content; following such a dream I recommend that the dreamer read the Old Testament Book of Jonah since many allegories and parables can clarify the obscure connections of his own destiny; see Whale.
