The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Construction

  • a very frequent dream symbol especially in building a new life view of the world and of oneself; the construction of a personality on new – healthier – foundations.
  • construction of a new building or reconstruction of an old one (house, apartment, cottage): the building of the personality on a new, healthier foundation which usually happens after experiencing a dream death.
  • the bathroom or WC in the structure: symbolizes the dreamer's important work in the transubstantiation of the mind's content for the benefit of emotional perceptions and experiences.
  • completed: see Building, see House or see structure in question.
  • transportation (e.g. a road, railway): the start of an important period; the construction of a life journey.
  • can also serve to protect the dreamer from the external world (usually a castle, fortification, cover, bunker etc.).
  • supervisor of construction (foreman), works inspection: construction is accelerating in life since the emotional plane in the symbol of the supervisor is taking part in it (supervision).
  • living in a construction trailer: temporary state, time to find your true individuality.
  • buying a building plot, construction site: the nature of this act depends on the future building.
  • drafting, designing buildings: the start of an important life period.
  • laying a cornerstone: beginning the next life stage.
  • a construction pit: the construction of a life, the attempt to control subconscious impulses urging the dreamer toward sexually tinged acts.
  • seeing a bulldozer or other similar machine working: as new construction begins to be created on level land, so does the purity of the soul begin with work of heavy construction machinery that levels off all necessary mounds and piles that the ego has created for many years.
  • collapse of a structure: death of the house owner or of one of the nearby inhabitants of this place (usually within 10 months); if it can't be determined, then the death of the dreamer's ego (death of the ego in experiencing a dream death can be repeated several times a year).
  • demolition, destruction of a building: precedes construction since first the dreamer must demolish various structures, transportation means or objects symbolizing his past world so that in their place there can be built a new and more modern house or other building, which signifies in the unconscious that a new view is taking root; demolition in this form is often part of the complicated process of the Apocalypse archetype.
  • destroying a structure: if it is not linked to a certain place or person, it means the destruction of a substantial part of one's ego; if it is linked to a person or place, then it is a foretelling of the death of the owner or person living near the dream structure.
  • structures or objects linked to sexuality (e.g. chimneys) are demolished in ridding oneself of sexual dependencies; see Demolition.
  • a building standing directly on the path: no matter how beautiful the building is, it always relates to the ego which prevents forward progress. This building needs to be demolished.
  • construction on mountains: confirms the building of a quality foundation for permanent living of an emotional and later even spiritual life.
  • constructing buildings on or near a border: the completion of such edifices allows the dreamer to establish firmer relations to a newly understood psychological realm.
  • a construction activity at a gatehouse: enables the future smooth passage from one to another state of mind or between levels of experiences (instinctual – emotional or emotional – spiritual); it's good when the dreamer himself helps in the building activity at the gatehouse since in this way he is an active factor in his progress.
  • becoming dirty in the construction: a mistake in constructing the personality; a soiled character and moral failings.
  • round: symbolizes a developing and inwardly oriented mind; in contrast to a mind oriented outwardly to the world and to sensual experiences – Implicate Order*37.
  • monumental building, dominant: represents the center of a being (see the Treasure archetype).
  • structures rising to the sky: see Babylon, the Tower of Babel.
  • of stone stairs: symbolizes a past attempt or past positive acts that formed the foundation for future ascent.
  • of pillars: if they support the structure, they have the meaning of the structure they are supporting (see type of structure); if they are standing independently, they are phallic symbols; see Pillar.
  • of an arch: an important dream showing the dreamer the approaching defeat of duality and the dreamer's experience heading toward the unification of antitheses in the mind; the size and grandeur of the arc indicates the strength of this process.
  • a bridge under construction: the dreamer's active work to change his current life and, in the later phases of spiritual development, his state of being.
  • building the final bridge of one's life: the dreamer's definitive departure from the earthly way of life is wedded with an attempt to find peace and tranquility in the soul (Kingdom of God).
  • of a garage: while the construction of a garage is a negative image that strengthens emotional relations on the instinctual level, the conversion of a garage into a residential building is a very positive image since a new state of existence replaces the instinctual life.
  • of a sidewalk: the construction of a life path; if the dreamer is also building a road, then the sidewalk is the slower version of the life path.
  • of a highway, seeing a highway under construction: an attempt at a quick resolution of life troubles related to the place where the highway is built.
  • of a route directly on the surface of water: the dreamer has built a very risky crossing across his own emotions and it is very likely that he will "bathe" in his unprocessed emotions.
  • building a dam of ice and snow (usually with children): the dreamer is on the border between the emotional and spiritual levels and is able to deliberately hold back and release feelings (the water from the dam).
  • of a dam, reservoir, pond: represents the construction of an emotional inner world.
  • of a woodpile: other's will not clearly understand the dreamer's attempt at moral purification, so he should keep his unconventional thoughts and views to himself, otherwise he will feel open hostility from people that he still considers his friends.
  • of a roadblock: a futile attempt to separate oneself from a world that is alien to the dreamer (due to its e.g. violence, materialistic desires, lust, selfishness); yet the only way is to process in waking consciousness every negative quality that we want to barricade ourselves from in dreams and thereby assimilate it through a higher mind.
  • of an igloo: the construction of a spiritual life and the incorporation of these principles into waking consciousness.
  • construction of a radar station: expresses the dreamer's attempt to check the content of his own psyche.
  • of an antenna, transmitter: yields distinct improvement in the dreamer's communication with friends and family.
  • of a barricade: symbolizes the pointless attempt to separate oneself from a world that is alien to the dreamer (due to its e.g. violence, materialistic desires, lust, selfishness); the only way is to directly process in waking consciousness every negative quality that we want to barricade ourselves from in dreams and thereby assimilate it through greater awareness.
  • reconstruction of a castle: an attempt at clarifying emotional ties to someone, except for if a firm resolution to contentious matter is reached. In this case, emotions will harden owing to the isolation from the rest of the world.
  • of a church: the construction of an emotional and spiritual life.
  • taking part in the construction of a pyramid: may confirm the dreamer's direction to final realization*68 or be a memory of a past life (see Past and Future Visions archetype) or even a combination of both.
