The Dream Book of Self-Knowledge

Roof

  • conscious mind, intellect.
  • roof frame: the structure of the conscious mind.
  • distorted: symbolizes serious psychological problems of the house's owner or of one of the nearby inhabitants since his conscious mind has lost one of the supporting pillars.
  • seriously damaged: can symbolize a grave illness or death of the house owner or of someone living close to this place.
  • leaky: emotions (rain water) can influence the conscious mind in a positive way.
  • moss-covered: the penetration of instinctual content to the dreamer's mind.
  • shingled: insufficient protection of the dreamer's mind from the penetration of instinctual content to the dreamer's consciousness; the threat that sexuality will overshadow emotions or rational thought.
  • repairing: symbolizes the dreamer's active attempt to protect the conscious mind from external influences.
  • escaping to a roof, hiding on the roof or under it, a roof as a refuge: the image expresses the dreamer's attempt to hide emotions behind rational thinking, thereby justifying his insensitive acts.
  • roofer on a roof: relates to the conscious mind (roof) and its protection.
  • with an antenna, installing or repairing an antenna: see Antenna.
  • a straw roof: symbolizes intensified sexuality that passes from the subconscious to consciousness and the threat that this sexuality overshadows emotions and rational thinking.
  • children on a roof: even though their activity on the roof (usually a game) can be interpreted as absurd, it almost always leads the dreamer to a safe unification on the emotional level; therefore destructive activities (including possible pushing or falls) by dream children on the roof is almost always significant help to the dreamer.
  • a person in repairing a roof: an active agent that protects the conscious mind from external influences.
  • objects falling from a roof: mistakes of the conscious mind (reason) that threaten the dreamer's life path; these dangerous objects frequently have a phallic shape and meaning.
  • being thrown from a roof: does not necessarily possess a negative meaning as it may seem at first glance since the dreamer has armored himself with reason and does not allow for emotion to penetrate into his obstinate heart; in such an instance a forced fall from a roof can be good since in the absence of reason the dreamer once again finds the missing emotion.
  • jumping from a roof into snow: symbolizes the direction of the conscious mind toward a spiritual area (see Snow).
  • retractable: symbolizes the dreamer's openness to external influences and emotional matters that reason ignores.
  • glass: indicates a pure and sincere mind.
  • round: also see Circle.
