*35 Numinosum expresses a sanctity for which we feel awe or in the worst case terror. It was derived from the Greek work noumen that depicts an impersonal force that appears through extraordinary phenomena. It was later understood as the expression of the force of a deity. Since every deity was endowed with a noumen, the expression gradually took on the meaning of God. See Numinosum archetype.
