*95 Androgynous creature

*95 Androgynous creature. Plato mentions an androgynous creature called Androgynos, who existed at the beginning of the human race. The androgyns rebelled against the gods; Zeus punished their defiance by splitting them into two halves of different sexes. Since then, both parts of original androgyns were ceaselessly looking for the missing half to join. In this myth, human sexuality is explained as the motive behind the urge for original unity. The image of an androgynous creature, which clearly belongs to the Anima – Animus archetype, is the very beginning of time before the division and is the inevitable way back to the paradise that we once abandoned.
